수업목표
및개요 How much longer can humanity, with a 500,000 year old history, dominate the food chain? Through the rapid development of science and technology, modern humans have been able to exercise greater personal freedom and become "global citizens." At the same time, individuals cannot hide their sense of fear and anxiety as the world becomes pervaded by discourses of war and crisis. It appears as if the era of industrialization, urbanization, and citizen-state, with the discovery of "areas" by the West, is coming to its end. Where do we locate family, ethnicity, and nation, along with "tradition," at this point in history? How about the globe, globalization, and cyborgs, never mind, values, ethics, and creativity? This course aims to analyze the rapidly globalizing topography of contemporary culture and link it to everyday life.

선수과목 Proficiency in English and Korean
강좌운영방식
Even though this is an English class, I hope students who speak both Korean and English take this class. Those who cannot understand either of these languages should take this class after improving their language abilities. The class will be conducted mostly in English; still Korean will be used. With the class being taught jointly with a U. of Berkeley professor, the first part will be taught by Prof. Cho Hae-joang, who will use diverse media and texts rather than lectures to teach the class. The second part will be taught by John Lie, a professor of International and Area Studies at UC, Berkeley.
2) This class aims to create a synergy effect by combining lectures, special guest appearances, participant-observation, response papers, and (cyber) discussion with individual/group projects. Using films and texts addressing the "global," students will train themselves to write self-reflectively.
3)Students will engage in cooperative knowledge production through team projects.
성적평가방법 Mid-term/Final(20%)
Individual writing(30%)
Activation of offline and online class communities(30%)
Team project(20%)
